Barrow Music Week welcomes an award-winning Barrow born author for an evening of ‘naughty 90s nostalgia.’ Rave New World: Live! Celebrates the rave era in a fast-paced mix of storytelling, stand up, satirical social commentary and song.
Barrow born ‘rave raconteur’ Kirk Field grew up in Furness, and regards the show on Tuesday 7th October at Barrow Town Hall as a homecoming gig.
“Barrow was where I first went clubbing and bought records. It’s always had a healthy underground music scene and it’s an honour to be part of Barrow Music Week.”
Kirk’s debut book, ‘rave new world: Confessions of a Raving Reporter’ was widely acclaimed by DJ’s including Fatboy Slim and Carl Cox, as well as winning celebrity endorsements from the likes of Robbie Williams and Gok Wan, and has become the UK’s best-selling book about rave culture since release in 2023, winning ‘Audiobook of the Year at last year’s ARIAS Awards which are regarded as the “Spoken Word Oscars”, in a field which included Alan Partridge and Stephen Fry.
His unique show – which has been seen at Glastonbury Festival and Edinburgh Fringe – will feature content from this and his hilarious new book, ‘planes, trains & amphetamines: Clubbing Holiday Confessions’, which covers his time running a holiday company for clubbers and has been described as “the funniest travel book you’ll ever read” by the Daily Express.
With pre/post and interval music showcasing Barrow DJ Graham “Gripper’ Newby’s album, Tambores En Benirras attendees can enjoy a one-off humour-filled, homegrown ‘strobe’ down memory lane.
