Manford’s Comedy Club

From a back bedroom on Marsden Street to comedy shows all over the world!  This month we’ll be welcoming a Barrow-born stand-up comedian back to his hometown as part of Manford’s Comedy Club at the Town Hall.

Dave Williams was born here in Barrow in 1964, the son of a Vickers Shipyard plumber, and went to Sacred Heart Primary School and Barrow Grammar.  He remembers his first summer job on the door at Top Rank Bingo Hall “sweet talking the old ladies” which helped hone his patter for his later career in comedy.

His big break in stand-up came when he moved to Hull to attend the university and he decided to have a go at a student open-mic night.

“It went well, but I only did a few other attempts in the years following until I was so unhappy in a day job I decided to quit and try to eke out a living from showing off for money.  Still doing this now after 28 years and am beginning to get the hang of it,” said Dave.

Dave now lives in Manchester and life as a stand-up comedian has seen him travel the world as far afield as Australia, Hong Kong, The UAE and Millom!

Dave said he is looking forward to returning to Barrow for the Comedy Club on Friday 22 May where he will take to the stage with three other top stand-ups!
