Captivating landscapes, a whole world of emotions… Expect pure poetry in sound as Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra violinist Thelma Handy leads a group of Orchestra musicians in a feast of the finest works for strings. When Puccini learned of the death of a dear friend, he wrote his heartbreaking I Crisantemi in a flood of inspiration and emotion in just one night, and today it sits alongside Tchaikovsky’s iconic Serenade: heartfelt, graceful and often heralded as the best music he ever composed. We’ll also hear folk-inspired works from Rutter and Bridge, and a sweet symphony Mendelssohn wrote as an ode to composers who came before.
